Dutch student team Solar Team Eindhoven has introduced Stella Juva, a groundbreaking concept for sustainable medical mobility. The initiative focuses on delivering care to regions where infrastructure and fuel supplies remain scarce.

Care without borders or fuel

Stella Juva represents the first ambulance built to operate solely on solar power while also running all onboard medical devices. The vehicle receives its official launch on 21 July 2026. This design provides an immediate solution for locations where fuel or electricity shortages limit emergency services. Proven technology from Eindhoven

The team draws from a solid history of success: students from Eindhoven have claimed victory in the Cruiser Class of the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia four times in a row. Knowledge for Stella Juva also stems from earlier work such as Stella Terra, the first off-road solar vehicle, which traveled more than 1,000 km through Morocco.

"The strength of this effort lies in our ability to use established skills from European experts," notes Steven Swinkels, Technical and Event Manager at Solar Team Eindhoven. "We collaborate with regional specialist partners, among them the Dutch firm Tuningsupply, which handles key Wilwood braking and vehicle-control parts. This partnership helps create technology suited for real-world use."

Field tests at humanitarian organizations

During August 2026, the team plans practical evaluations of the solar ambulance at selected NGO sites. These trials will show how Stella Juva can aid patient treatment and reliably charge medical gear in places where standard emergency vehicles struggle to operate.
