PSE&G stands ready for the dangerous heat that is forecasted to persist through Saturday, along with the chance of strong thunderstorms during the holiday weekend. Customers should take proactive measures now to ensure safety, control energy consumption and prepare for any potential power disruptions.

The National Weather Service has an Extreme Heat Warning in place through Saturday evening. Isolated thunderstorms may develop Friday afternoon, with a higher chance of widespread storms on Saturday and additional activity possible Sunday mainly in southern New Jersey. Strong winds could knock down trees and power lines, leading to localized outages.

"We continue to monitor the forecast closely and are ready to respond to any effects from the extreme heat and expected thunderstorms this holiday weekend," said Paul Toscarelli, vice president of Electric Operations at PSE&G. "We have boosted staffing, placed crews throughout the service area and secured essential materials to respond safely and restore service quickly if outages happen."

Customers are urged to prepare in advance by checking the company's storm safety resources online, learning how to report an outage ahead of time and staying connected during severe weather.

The call center is equipped to manage higher call volumes, and extra appliance service technicians and staff are on hand to handle requests for air conditioning repairs.

How is PSE&G getting ready for the heat wave?

PSE&G prepares throughout the year for severe weather by reinforcing and upgrading the electric system and positioning crews and resources to respond safely when extreme conditions arise. Ongoing infrastructure investments have supported its position as one of the nation's most reliable utility providers and have strengthened the electric system for the customers and communities served.

If outages take place, crews will evaluate damage and restore service safely, focusing first on repairs that return power to the largest number of customers as quickly as possible.

How can you stay safe during extreme heat?

Extreme heat and severe thunderstorms can create hazardous situations. Customers are encouraged to:

Stay hydrated and limit extended outdoor activity during the hottest hours of the day. Never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.
Downed wires should always be treated as live. Remain at least 30 feet away from downed wires and avoid approaching the pole or anything in contact with the wire. Contact PSE&G immediately at 1-800-436-PSEG (7734), through the mobile app or the website to report downed wires, and call 911 if an immediate hazard is present.
Charge phones, medical devices and backup batteries before storms arrive.
Secure outdoor furniture and other loose items outside.
Keep flashlights and fresh batteries easily accessible.
To avoid carbon monoxide poisoning, never run gasoline-powered generators inside a home, garage or other enclosed area.

Air conditioners operate more intensely during extended heat, raising household energy consumption. Customers can help lower their energy use by:

Raising the thermostat a few degrees when away from home.
Using ceiling fans to move cool air around.
Closing blinds and curtains on windows that face the sun.
