Workforce growth stays a central focus for Pennsylvania American Water as the firm works to draw, train and keep the skilled staff required to deliver safe, clean, dependable and cost-effective water and wastewater services to customers statewide.

Pennsylvania American Water recently wrapped two rounds of its Flow Forward Summer Camp Program, which gave more than 30 high school sophomores, juniors and seniors from 14 school districts a multi-day workforce growth experience. Attendees examined job routes and joined practical activities and guidance tied to roles in water and wastewater fields.

The firm also runs the Future Wavemakers Internship Program for college students. Built to grow the next set of water and wastewater industry leaders, this effort rests on guidance, career training and real projects that match both students' studies and American Water's aims. Interns join final projects, networking sessions and ability workshops while adding new views and creative thoughts to the firm. This year the program hosted 16 college interns at Pennsylvania American Water sites across the state, giving practical time in engineering, finance, operations, health and safety, communications and other areas.

Beyond internship roles, the company reaches out year-round to inform students and adults about job routes and openings in the water and wastewater field. The firm also works with schools, colleges, elected leaders, government bodies and nonprofits plus statewide groups to highlight water careers via school talks, site visits, job fairs, local events and similar activities. Further, the American Water Charitable Foundation's yearly Workforce Readiness Grant Program targets broad career prep, financial and business knowledge, youth growth and life abilities. In 2025 the foundation gave $75,000 to two nonprofit groups in Pennsylvania via this grant effort.
