Every member airline has joined forces to back the global drive against illegal wildlife trade

/PRNewswire/ -- oneworld and its 15 member carriers have pledged to tackle illegal wildlife trafficking by signing the Buckingham Palace Declaration, becoming the first airline alliance to achieve unanimous member support.

"The full commitment from all oneworld members greatly boosts our ability to spot and disrupt trafficking while aiding the fight against illegal wildlife trade," said Ole Orver, CEO of oneworld. "This milestone highlights the key role aviation plays in protecting endangered species and preserving global ecosystems."

Royal Jordanian President and CEO Samer Majali signed the Buckingham Palace Declaration at the IATA Wings of Change Europe event in Brussels, completing the pledge from all 15 oneworld member airlines.

Wildlife trafficking forms part of broader environmental crime, one of the fastest-growing areas of organized crime worldwide that relies on transport networks and supply chains to move illicit goods. Environmental crime also drives biodiversity loss and causes economic damage exceeding 1 trillion US dollars annually.

The Buckingham Palace Declaration unites transport and logistics sectors to close routes used by traffickers and was launched by the Royal Foundation's United for Wildlife in 2016. Through this pledge, oneworld members will strengthen policies, enhance detection and reporting, and support global enforcement across the alliance network serving nearly 1,000 destinations.

"We are pleased to see this momentum continue with new signatories that bolster worldwide efforts to prevent and disrupt wildlife trafficking," said Lord William Hague, co-chair of United for Wildlife. "We welcome the oneworld family, representing 15 airlines, to the taskforce." By signing the declaration, oneworld joins this global effort and strengthens aviation's capacity to detect and deter such crimes through collaboration with law enforcement and conservation partners.

By endorsing the Buckingham Palace Declaration, the 15 oneworld member airlines have committed to supporting the worldwide fight against wildlife trafficking. Together they can now enhance staff training, information sharing, and cooperation with authorities to help detect, deter, and disrupt trafficking across their networks.

Measures outlined in the declaration include:

Adopting a zero-tolerance approach to illegal wildlife trade
Improving screening, reporting, and compliance processes for cargo and passenger operations
Training frontline teams to identify and respond to suspicious activity
Collaborating with governments, customs authorities, and conservation organizations

The Buckingham Palace Declaration also supports broader work by the United for Wildlife Transport Taskforce, helping accelerate a more coordinated and effective global response to illegal wildlife trade.
