Wayfinder Family Services recently hosted Miyako, the actress portraying the blind earthbender Toph Beifong in Season 2 of Netflix's Avatar: The Last Airbender, along with Joe Strechay, the show's blindness consultant, at its Los Angeles campus. The pair presented a signed Funko Pop figurine from the cast and crew and explored the Davidson Program for Independence, which offers residential rehabilitation for adults who are blind or visually impaired.

Wayfinder provides immersive residential programs for adults 18 and older, focusing on skills like Braille, orientation and mobility, assistive technology, and independent living. These initiatives help participants achieve greater independence at home, work, and in their communities. Programs are available in Los Angeles through the Davidson Program and in Sacramento at the Hatlen Center, with referrals accepted via the California Department of Rehabilitation.

The event highlighted inclusion and empowerment for those who are blind or visually impaired. Strechay collaborated closely with Miyako on every scene and rehearsal to portray Toph's blindness authentically. "I am part of the greater blindness community and that brings a responsibility to lift us up," Strechay noted.
