Champion Leadership Group's Futureproof Value Index is among the largest proprietary SaaS exit datasets outside major investment banking infrastructure. It pinpoints retention factors that secure premium multiples along with growth approaches that quietly diminish founder value ahead of any sale process.

Champion Leadership Group today unveiled results from the Futureproof Value Index, a proprietary scoring framework built on more than 81,000 closed transactions in SaaS, technology, and technology-enabled services. This stands as one of the largest private-market datasets of its kind outside major investment banking infrastructure.

The results draw support from primary research involving 223 active investors, including 108 institutional participants from venture capital, private equity, corporate strategic acquirers, and investment banking, plus 115 further discussions through the SaaS Fuel Fund I investment process.

Firms that suffered the heaviest losses amid more than 2 trillion dollars erased from SaaS market capitalization in early 2026 shared a consistent profile: heavy spending on growth, net revenue retention below 100 percent, and reliance on a small number of large accounts. The Futureproof Value Index has identified this profile as a premium-multiple risk for eight years. The recent downturn did not alter the underlying rules. It simply exposed that they had already been set.

Five insights highlight the divide between an average founder score of 57 and scores above 90, where companies attract three times more acquisition offers at 71 percent higher valuations.

Net revenue retention ranks as the metric with the strongest tie to exit multiple. Firms above 110 percent achieve 7x to 12x ARR multiples, while those below 100 percent see multiples shrink to 3x to 5x even at identical growth rates. Improving NRR by 15 points during the 2 million to 5 million ARR stage produces greater multiple gains than doubling the growth rate.

Revenue predictability emerges as the second most important factor. Companies with 70 percent or more of ARR under contracts lasting 12 months or longer consistently earn premiums over month-to-month counterparts. A 10 percent multi-year discount functions less as a pricing concession and more as preparation for a transaction.

Customer concentration often creates the costliest surprise during due diligence. When the top customer accounts for over 20 to 25 percent of ARR, valuations face discounts of 20 to 30 percent, even if that anchor customer carries a recognizable enterprise name. This single variable has separated 8x from 5x ARR outcomes.

Beyond 30 to 35 percent growth, further increases in growth rate add almost no additional value. Companies growing at 35 percent and 55 percent year over year received statistically similar multiples once NRR and predictability were held constant. Continued capital burn past that point with NRR below 100 percent shifts a metric that will not alter the exit result.

The timing of the first VP of Sales hire, when made at the incorrect ARR stage, repeatedly delays or reduces exit values. The dataset reveals a narrow window for premium outcomes versus the expensive failure patterns tied to early or late timing mistakes.
