/PRNewswire/ -- Electrification already provides Europe with a competitive advantage, yet expanding it calls for improved coordination across all system levels, according to a fresh Eurelectric report unveiled today at the Power Summit. Drawing on insights from 61 firms and 30 specific initiatives, the analysis pinpoints success factors for industrial projects and obstacles limiting rollout. This has led to the concept of "Power Couples" - a scalable electrification approach that enhances competitiveness by synchronizing market indicators, grid setups, funding mechanisms and regulations.

Electrification is increasingly seen as essential for industry to remain competitive globally, but progress falls short of required speed. To pinpoint barriers and develop shared solutions, the European power sector consulted industry players across three areas: low- and medium-temperature heat, energy-intensive sectors and data centres.

The resulting report highlights five replicable models functioning as "Power Couples": integrated industrial partnership approaches that jointly optimize demand, low-carbon supply, infrastructure and flexibility.

In a Power Couples model, one load secures long-term clean power, another adjusts demand during price surges, a third offers rapid balancing, and all share infrastructure, risk and system benefits. They function via commercial arrangements such as long-term PPAs, Heat as a Service, Energy as a Service, waste-heat offtake, flexibility revenues or blended public-private financing.

For industry, the Power Couples method bolsters economic returns on electrification investments.
