The report maps key technology and policy shifts affecting school safety across the U.S. and is based on information gathered during the 2025/2026 school year via the CENTEGIX Safety Platform including more than 346000 alerts from wearable panic buttons. Key 2026 Report Findings Include:

Panic Buttons Support Daily Protection Across Many Incident Types - Current school safety covers more than large-scale threats and lockdowns. This year use of CENTEGIX panic buttons for alerts rose 31 percent from the prior school year. Of these alerts 88 percent involved behavior issues such as physical fights students leaving campus without approval known as elopements and other events where staff need extra help. Another 10 percent covered medical issues such as seizures cardiac events or allergic reactions.
Full Campus Coverage Matters - The report showed that 58 percent of incidents took place outside classrooms in areas like hallways (17 percent) outdoor zones (10 percent) and cafeterias (3 percent) underscoring the value of exact location details to shorten response times.
Technology and Training Aid Protection in Major Incidents - Though only 1 percent of alerts involved major campus-wide threats that needed full lockdowns technology and training are proving effective. For instance in September 2025 during dismissal at S.L. Mason Elementary School in Valdosta Georgia an armed person started shooting near the parent and visitor entrance. Within 37 seconds the school entered lockdown after an administrator outside at the bus area activated their CrisisAlert badge. No injuries occurred and the threat was contained.
Data Builds Better Readiness - Schools can only improve what they can measure. As districts refine emergency plans many rely on safety data and live visibility for smarter choices across sites. Data guides resource use coordination with responders and offers instant insight.
National Efforts for Safer Schools Raise Standards - Laws keep shaping school safety rules. Demands for quicker emergency alerts and joint response tools are growing via Alyssa's Law expansions. Safer Settings Aid Broader District Goals - Focusing on safety helps districts tackle teacher retention absenteeism and academic results. In a survey 94 percent of school staff said a wearable panic button increases their sense of safety. Limestone Community High School District featured in the report saw its dropout rate fall 4 percent chronic absenteeism drop 11 percent and physical violence incidents fall from 83 to 12 after emphasizing school safety and culture.
