Finish the free Responsible Rider Masterclass 101 Off-Road course and $35 will support Tread Lightly! Stewardship projects

Safe riding forms a key part of the Can-Am experience and, via BRP's Responsible Rider Program, the team aims to help riders enjoy their time responsibly whether on trails, working land, exploring dunes or circling a track.

Responsible riding extends past rule compliance. It safeguards trail access, eases tensions with fellow outdoor users, lessens environmental effects and keeps outdoor enjoyment available for years ahead.

To support this goal, Can-Am and BRP partnered with Tread Lightly! on the Responsible Rider Masterclass 101 series, offering free educational courses that guide participants toward safer and more responsible powersports enjoyment.

BRP and Tread Lightly! introduced the Responsible Rider Masterclass in February 2025 beginning with Snow 101, followed by Water 101 and Off-Road 101. The Off-Road 101 course covers Safety, Rider Behavior and Environmental stewardship to prepare off-roaders at every level with practical knowledge for responsible riding and positive example-setting. The brief free online training presents content in an engaging style through Tread Lightly! staff along with Can-Am ambassadors Terry Madden and Kira Block.

6 Tips to Ride Responsibly All Summer Long

Although SSVs, UTVs and ATVs offer dependable performance, consistent safety habits lower chances of avoidable issues. Consider these key reminders:

Gear Up - Always wear a helmet, gloves, eye protection and required safety equipment. Buckle the seat belt immediately upon entering the vehicle.
Stay on the Trail - Follow marked trails to protect delicate areas. Cross small obstacles directly instead of bypassing them to prevent trail widening.
Be Respectful - Maintain space, yield to smaller or slower riders and those traveling uphill, reduce dust and limit noise near homes.
Ride Smart - Understand your vehicle, assess the terrain and operate within personal abilities.
Ride Alert and Sober - Never combine trail riding with alcohol or drugs.
