Dutch entrepreneur and behavioral design specialist Bas Wouters has initiated civil proceedings in the Netherlands targeting Dr. Robert Cialdini and multiple U.S.-based individuals and organizations tied to the Cialdini Institute.

No court has issued a ruling on the substance of the claims, and the defendants retain the right to challenge the assertions presented.

Civil claim filed in Dutch court

The Dutch civil summons requests damages totaling approximately EUR 31.99 million. Named defendants in the case include Robert Cialdini, Bobette Gorden, Cialdini Institute LLC, Influence At Work LLC, Samir Patel and Christopher Phelps.

Dispute concerns Cialdini Institute matter

Per the Dutch legal documents, the conflict involves claims of commercial misconduct, breaches of contract, shareholder matters, intellectual property concerns and asserted harm to business operations linked to the Cialdini Institute.

Wouters previously contributed to the development and global expansion of the Cialdini Institute. The filing indicates the Institute maintained international operations along with commercial activities, an extensive mailing list and a calculated enterprise value.

Filing refers to disputed share transfer

The summons claims that Wouters' role, investment, shareholder stake and associated business interests suffered harm due to actions and choices by the defendants. It also addresses contested occurrences around the transfer of Wouters' majority interest in the Cialdini Institute.

Legal process ongoing

"No court has yet ruled on the merits of the claims," stated Tim Delmée, counsel for Wouters and the Dutch entities. "The allegations appear in the Dutch civil summons and will proceed through the legal process. The defendants will have the chance to reply in court."
