The American Land Title Association (ALTA) released a statement following enactment of the bipartisan 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act.

ALTA commends leaders in Congress, President Trump and the Trump Administration for prioritizing solutions to one of the biggest issues confronting American families: creating more attainable and sustainable paths to homeownership.

The 21st Century ROAD to Housing Act advances efforts to grow the nation's housing supply, update federal housing rules and broaden access to homeownership. Amid ongoing concerns over housing costs, the law illustrates how policymakers can unite on practical measures that support buyers, owners and local communities.

"ALTA recognizes Chairman Tim Scott, Ranking Member Elizabeth Warren, Chairman French Hill, Ranking Member Maxine Waters and other congressional leaders for moving this important legislation forward," said ALTA CEO Chris Morton. "This represents a major victory for the public. Homeownership remains a key route for families to establish stability, security and wealth that passes to future generations, and the new law helps more Americans reach that goal."

ALTA has consistently backed policies that increase housing access while upholding core protections that keep the U.S. real estate market secure, dependable and reliable. As officials pursue further affordability measures, ALTA continues to stress the need to shield buyers and lenders from fraud, forgery, title defects and other threats to property rights.

"The title insurance sector contributes directly to these discussions because fraud drives up costs," Morton said. "For most Americans, a home is their largest financial commitment. Title professionals work daily to detect and block fraud before transactions close and to deliver enduring protection for homeowners and their property rights. As affordability efforts advance, it remains essential to retain the safeguards that prevent families from losing assets they worked hard to obtain."
