For years many assumed philanthropy depended mainly on older business leaders and affluent individuals. Nonprofit directors often voiced concerns that younger adults showed less community involvement and were unlikely to give. Reality has unfolded quite differently in recent times.

JGive's latest Israeli Giving Report finds that 61 percent of leading donors are under age 50. The statistic highlights a clear generational shift and a deeper evolution in donation habits rather than simply who participates.

Millennials entered adulthood amid widespread technology and accessible investment tools. Their approach to giving therefore differs from earlier patterns. What once seemed a single act or reaction to an event now forms part of regular financial routines, similar to long-term investing or saving strategies.

Data from the report reveal that roughly 85 million NIS in stock donations occurred over the past year, marking a 240 percent increase. The rise indicates that more Israelis now view philanthropy as an element of thoughtful, extended financial management instead of a simple bank transfer.

Such practices have existed in the United States for some time, yet they have gained traction in Israel only recently as more citizens acquire stocks and other assets. The October 7 events further sped the shift by underscoring the importance of civil society groups and prompting swift action from entrepreneurs, tech professionals, and families alike.

The central question has therefore moved beyond whether younger adults will donate. Attention now centers on the methods they select. Their philanthropy retains strong values and purpose while employing digital and calculated tools suited to modern life.

In coming years observers may conclude that both the donors and the broader definition of giving in Israel have evolved together.
