Ukrainian defense technology company SkyFall announced on Wednesday the creation of a new interceptor drone built specifically to neutralize Russia's jet-powered Shahed drones, which represent a quicker category of attack unmanned aerial vehicles that Moscow has deployed with greater frequency.

The P1-SUN JetKiller reaches a maximum speed of 370 kmph, equivalent to 230 mph, and operates at altitudes up to 9,000 meters, around 30,000 feet, according to the firm's official release.

This drone stays in the air for 15 minutes while carrying a 500-gram explosive charge and supports camera setups for both daytime and nighttime missions, the company noted.

High velocity and agility stand out as essential features for any interceptor aiming to pursue and eliminate a jet-powered Shahed.

Earlier Ukrainian interceptor drones targeted the Geran-1 and Geran-2 models, which are Russia's adaptations of the Iranian propeller-driven Shahed. Those versions top out near 115 mph, whereas newer jet-engine variants known as Geran-3s maintain cruise speeds around 200 mph.

Developing inexpensive drones to handle these accelerated Shaheds has proven challenging for Ukraine. Prior reports highlighted that enhancing propeller-driven interceptors for mass production to achieve such velocities demands extensive adjustments.

The high power demands for accelerating quadcopters toward 200 mph or more can cause overheating issues, yet SkyFall indicated the JetKiller avoids this concern during straight-line travel.

SkyFall stated the JetKiller features an AI-driven terminal guidance system, essentially a targeting algorithm that directs the drone during the final approach to its target. This type of technology has seen growing use in Ukrainian drones throughout the year.

The company explained that the system enables the interceptor to identify and lock onto hostile targets more rapidly than human vision at distances reaching 1 kilometer.

A company spokesperson, known only by the call sign Ares for security reasons, noted that the system has already achieved confirmed intercepts and is entering mass production.

Ares informed Business Insider that the JetKiller has eliminated more than a dozen jet-powered threats in combat, with SkyFall planning to begin large-scale manufacturing in August aiming for 50,000 units per month.

Kyiv has repeatedly highlighted its focus this year on low-cost interceptor solutions to address Russia's jet-powered drones. Moscow operates at least three primary jet-engine attack drone types, including the Geran-5, which Ukrainian intelligence flagged in January as capable of speeds up to 373 mph.

The JetKiller ranks among the limited interceptor drones Ukrainian firms claim can meet this requirement. Another manufacturer, Wild Hornets, mentioned in May that it is evaluating an updated Sting interceptor version intended to counter jet-powered Shaheds.
