The official meme coin tied to United States President Donald Trump turned into one of the largest crypto events in recent times right after its debut. Yet eighteen months on, fresh figures highlight how sharply results diverged for ordinary buyers versus early entrants and especially versus Trump.

Blockchain analytics firm Nansen data first reported by The New York Times show that close to one million wallets buying the TRUMP coin posted combined losses near 3.81 billion dollars through late June. Of roughly 1.48 million wallets that acquired the token since its January 2025 launch, 988905 sit underwater.

Put plainly, about two of every three wallets that bought the coin ended up losing money. The tally covers both realized losses and unrealized paper losses for holders still sitting on tokens bought above current prices.

From under one dollar to a seventy five dollar peak followed by steep decline

Understanding losses of this scale requires looking back at the coin launch. TRUMP debuted in January 2025 and quickly became a worldwide sensation. Early buyers acquired it below one dollar and the price climbed toward seventy five dollars inside two days.

The rapid climb drew crowds of new buyers many entering after the token had already risen thousands of percent yet the trend soon reversed.

This week TRUMP trades near 1.73 dollars down roughly ninety seven percent from its post launch high. Market capitalization that once neared fifteen billion dollars now stands around four hundred eleven million. As is common with meme coins timing proved decisive.

Fewer than half a million wallets gained yet gains proved substantial

Beside the nearly one million losing wallets the figures also identify a smaller set of big winners. Nansen reports roughly 492000 wallets hold cumulative gains near 4.04 billion dollars. Profits clustered among buyers who entered in the first hours when prices remained below one dollar before wider participation drove the surge.

Combining profits and losses across all 1.48 million wallets yields a striking net result. Overall cumulative profit for every purchaser totals only about 236 million dollars.

Despite billions changing hands amid sharp rallies and tales of instant wealth the entire group of investors earned far less than the coin generated for Trump alone.

Trump reported 636 million dollars

Perhaps the most striking detail emerged last week when Trump annual revenue filing a 927 page document reached the US Office of Government Ethics.

The filing lists roughly 636 million dollars in meme coin related income chiefly from royalties and licensing deals routed through CIC Digital. By comparison the net profit across all 1.48 million wallets tracked by Nansen reaches only about 236 million dollars.

Thus the coin activity produced nearly three times more for Trump than the combined net profit of every examined purchaser even before broader considerations.

WLFI also deep in the red Nansen reviewed WLFI the governance token of World Liberty Financial the decentralized finance venture linked to the Trump family.

Of 26663 wallets that bought the token on the secondary market and that the firm could track about eighty five percent sit at a loss. Cumulative losses for those wallets reach about 83 million dollars against roughly 23 million dollars in gains.

Price movement tells the same story. WLFI traded near 0.056 dollars over the weekend down more than eighty percent since secondary market trading began last September.

Still the data exclude over 241000 wallets that purchased WLFI directly in initial sales and they do not capture all activity on centralized exchanges. The complete picture could therefore be even wider.

The new numbers arrive at a sensitive moment as Congress debates the CLARITY Act intended to regulate the US crypto market and clarify regulator roles.

At the same time Democratic lawmakers seek to add ethics provisions limiting the ability of elected officials and relatives to issue promote or profit from digital currencies.
