Starbucks disclosed its most recent corporate layoffs on Friday, eliminating 300 positions.
This represents the third wave of reductions since February 2025, tied to its "Back to Starbucks" turnaround plan.
The company's moves reflect a larger pattern of white-collar job cuts across corporations.

Starbucks presses on with corporate staff reductions as CEO Brian Niccol drives a major turnaround initiative that has already overhauled significant portions of the coffee chain's operations.

The company revealed on Friday that it plans to cut around 300 U.S. support roles while evaluating its international support setup, which may lead to further job losses overseas. Starbucks is also combining regional office locations and reassessing lease agreements to trim expenses and refine operations.

These reductions constitute Starbucks' third set of corporate layoffs since February 2025, illustrating Niccol's aggressive efforts to transform the business since stepping in as CEO in September 2024.

"We are implementing more steps under the Back to Starbucks strategy, leveraging our solid business momentum to guide the company back to sustainable, profitable growth," a Starbucks spokesperson told Business Insider.

The spokesperson explained that executives examined their structures to "intensify focus, prioritize efforts, cut complexity, and reduce costs."

Starbucks projects about $400 million in restructuring costs from these actions, including roughly $120 million for severance and approximately $280 million in accounting charges primarily linked to leased office spaces, based on details in an SEC filing.

The new cuts extend a comprehensive restructuring push over the past year. In February 2025, Starbucks announced the elimination of 1,100 global corporate support jobs and the cancellation of several hundred open roles. Another 900 positions followed in September, along with the shutdown of over 400 coffee shops.

Starbucks has additionally strengthened return-to-office mandates, opened a new satellite office in Nashville, and reorganized teams to address prolonged sales stagnation and boost operational efficiency.

Such restructuring at Starbucks parallels a wider retreat in corporate America, with retail, technology, and consumer sectors aggressively reducing white-collar headcounts and consolidating office footprints.

Yet Starbucks' turnaround is starting to deliver gains. Its April earnings revealed a 6.2% rise in global comparable-store sales, and leaders described the business as building speed. The stock had climbed more than 26% year to date ahead of the layoff news.
