Shufersal, Israel's prominent supermarket chain, announced an expansion of its coffee offerings by adding more brands and pursuing direct imports. This includes granulated coffee varieties and capsules designed for Nespresso machines. The retailer framed this development as a strategic move to lessen its reliance on major suppliers over the long term.

The company now offers around 18 different coffee brands spanning various categories and price points. This growth in the local coffee sector seeks to provide shoppers with greater options at more affordable rates, the firm noted.

Starting with Nagi Turkish coffee and Monro instant coffee, the initiative has grown to encompass ARNESTO granulated coffee as well as capsules compatible with Nespresso systems from the Vero, ARNESTO, and Caffe Dellucci lines, according to Shufersal.

“Genuine competition in the food retail sector is gauged by the price, quality, and selection available to Israeli shoppers,” stated Tom Yonai, vice president of communications and innovation at Shufersal Group. “This drives our push for direct imports alongside substantial investments in brand creation to deliver high-quality options at attractive prices.”

The selection features both locally made coffees and imported ones. Reports indicate that the Nagi Turkish coffee is produced domestically. Shufersal views this expansion as key to building its own brands and boosting independent procurement.

Growth occurs against backdrop of increasing coffee costs

This comes after indications of elevated coffee prices in Israeli supermarkets. An analysis from June in The Jerusalem Post, drawing on Institute for Retail Research data, showed a 14.4% rise in average prices for 35 coffee items across retailers from June 2025 to June 2026. The data incorporated promotions and did not represent a consistent selection.

Additionally, a Tel Aviv University study covered by the Post in October revealed that the mean price for a 200-gram jar of Taster's Choice coffee in local stores climbed from NIS 31.40 to NIS 39.60 from September 2022 to August 2026, marking a 26.1% hike.

Other chains also expand private label selections

Coffee has played a role in other retailers' private brand expansions. Upon Carrefour's entry into the Israeli market in May 2023, coffee capsules were included in its branded lineup, along with groceries, personal care, and household items.

Shufersal's statement omitted details on pricing, package dimensions, or direct comparisons to rival products. It likewise did not clarify compatibility specifics for the Nespresso capsules.
