A new ballroom a 250 foot arch a memorial garden and now a UFC fighting ring mark President Donald Trump second term with visible alterations to Washington DC. These range from department name changes to 30 foot tall banners displaying his portrait.

To mark his 80th birthday and America 250th anniversary the president has installed a large eight sided fighting cage on the White House South Lawn through a partnership with the UFC. The organization will stage a primetime event there on Sunday.

The Trump administration also finished renovating the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool this week. The 14.8 million dollar effort involved sealing and coating the pool base in American flag blue.

These projects join a longer roster of modifications to the capital. Officials cite goals such as government efficiency city beautification and celebration of the nation 250th birthday.

Although some initiatives continue or face legal hurdles the alterations already completed at the White House and nearby sites have transformed the look of the nation capital.

USAID Closure Signals Early Remodeling

Shortly after taking office the Department of Government Efficiency led a broad effort to dismantle the US Agency for International Development. The agency froze foreign aid reduced staff and programs and shifted remaining duties to the State Department. Former presidents Barack Obama and George W Bush criticized the action with Obama labeling it a travesty. Officials described it as a move for cost control and accountability. After the agency folded into the State Department on July 1 2025 its personnel offices and signs were cleared from the Ronald Reagan Building.

Labor Department Displays Trump Portraits

In August the US Department of Labor introduced banners featuring Trump initially for Labor Day but retained them for the 250th anniversary events following strong public feedback. The banners state American Workers First and show the president next to Theodore Roosevelt. Reports also noted that the Department of Health and Human Services considered large banners promoting health secretary Robert F Kennedy Jr Make America Healthy Again slogan.

Kennedy Center Renamed After Board Vote

In December the John F Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts was retitled the Donald J Trump and the John F Kennedy Memorial Center for the Performing Arts following a unanimous board vote. The president expressed surprise and honor at the decision. The change requires congressional approval and drew criticism including from some Kennedy family members. Performers canceled appearances and legal challenges arose. In March renovations were announced but a federal judge later ruled the name addition illegal and blocked the summer closure.

US Institute of Peace Also Renamed

The US Institute of Peace received Trump name in a State Department announcement that called him the greatest dealmaker in our nation history. The president credited Secretary of State Marco Rubio for the honor. Rubio posted support noting that Trump will be remembered as the President of Peace.

Plans Advance for World Largest Triumphal Arch

In October Trump proposed a 250 foot Independence Arch across the Potomac River from the Lincoln Memorial to honor America 250th anniversary. Land surveying has begun despite a lawsuit from Vietnam veterans seeking to halt construction. The approved design includes a Lady Liberty like figure gilded eagles gold lettering and a 360 degree observation deck. The structure would surpass France Arc de Triomphe and stand nearly half the height of the Washington Monument. A National Park Service assessment estimated year round construction over three years.

East Wing Demolition Clears Path for Ballroom

In October 2025 the White House East Wing was torn down to make room for a 90 000 square foot 400 million dollar ballroom. The president stated the project fulfills a long held dream of past leaders and will be funded by private donors. The demolition changed the mansion facade and relocated first lady staff offices drawing criticism from preservationists over the lack of congressional approval.
