The hashtag highlighting a post-90s Tsinghua talent impacting US markets ranked as the third-hottest tech topic on Weibo by 10 a.m. local time on Wednesday. In China, post-90s covers those born from 1990 through 1999.

That tag accumulated 32 million views within a single day when checked by Business Insider at the same morning hour.

One Beijing resident wrote under the tag that China once followed Silicon Valley AI closely, yet now a post-90s Tsinghua founder has introduced an advanced open-source system that rattled Wall Street directly.

A commenter from eastern Zhejiang province praised Yang as a top Tsinghua graduate whose advanced work challenged the long-held dominance of Silicon Valley AI players.

Tsinghua University stands as a premier public institution in Beijing. It placed among the global top 10 in the 2026 QS rankings for data science and artificial intelligence.

Separate Weibo voices focus on Yang's youthful looks, labeling him baby-faced.

Another Zhejiang user adopted a resigned view aligned with the lie-flat trend, noting growing belief that the future rests with such talents and holds little connection for average individuals.

Yang's online surge follows Moonshot AI's rollout of Kimi K3 last Friday. The system aims to match leading models from Anthropic and OpenAI across coding, reasoning, and knowledge tasks. The firm plans to publish model weights on July 27 so developers can customize and extend it.

After the launch, major US tech equities including Google and Nvidia saw declines, echoing the market reaction to DeepSeek's earlier breakthrough.
