MyPillow founder Mike Lindell is leaving his post as chief executive after more than two decades in the role.

The longtime Trump supporter announced on Facebook that he had reached one of the most important choices of his career by resigning to devote himself fully to running for governor of Minnesota.

"Minnesota deserves my full attention, and that is precisely what I intend to give," Lindell wrote. "I am completely committed and eager to earn your support."

James Furlong, who led the company as president between 2004 and 2019, has been named the new chief executive. A company statement noted that Lindell now holds only a minority ownership interest yet will remain on the board of directors.

"The existing leadership under Jim is best positioned to grow and strengthen MyPillow going forward," Lindell told Business Insider.

Lindell started the Minnesota-based pillow business in 2004 after a vivid dream inspired the brand name, logo, and a distinctive foam design that retains its shape.

His 2019 memoir recounts how he and his son first crafted the pillow filling by hand before expanding through trade shows and retail kiosks during the height of the infomercial era.

Lindell said the part of the job he will miss most is working alongside his staff.

"They feel like family to me," he remarked.

Primary voting in Minnesota is set for August 11, with the general election scheduled for November 3 to select the state's next governor.

Lindell has devoted years and substantial funds to investigating claims of widespread fraud in the 2020 presidential contest.

He also faced a lengthy defamation suit brought in 2021 by Dominion Voting Systems, now operating as Liberty Vote. The case concluded in July with a confidential settlement.

This is not Lindell's first attempt at political office. He mounted an unsuccessful campaign in 2023 to become chair of the Republican National Committee.
