Optimism surged across global financial markets on Monday after the announcement of a framework agreement between the Trump administration and Iran to conclude the Middle East conflict. The Spanish stock market emerged as a top performer. The Ibex 35 broke through multiple resistance levels and approached a new record high by surpassing the 19,000-point mark to reach 19,122 points. This performance reflects a rise of roughly 10% for the benchmark since the beginning of the year.

The agreement between the United States and Iran concludes the military buildup that had placed the Middle East under strain and posed risks to global economic stability.

The Strait of Hormuz reopens for worldwide trade

The main economic feature of the bilateral pact is the prompt reopening of the Strait of Hormuz. This sea lane ranks among the planet's vital logistics bottlenecks, carrying a fifth of the oil used globally along with substantial volumes of consumer and industrial products.

Since the start of the conflict, the closure of this route had disrupted worldwide supply chains and pushed crude prices to elevated levels, heightening concerns about a fresh inflationary spike.

The confirmation that commercial shipping will resume has prompted an immediate drop in Brent crude prices, which declined more than 4% ahead of the market open after rising during the period of tensions. Even so, prices remain above pre-conflict levels.

Ibex 35 review: which stocks lead the advance?

The reduction in geopolitical risks has renewed investor appetite for risk on the Spanish index, with banks and major firms such as Inditex among the primary gainers:

Tourism and airlines: Shares including IAG (owner of Iberia and Vueling, which has approached a 5% gain), Meliá Hotels and Amadeus are recording notable rises. Lower fuel costs and restored stability support brighter prospects for the summer period.
Banking sector: Leading institutions (BBVA, up 3.14%, Banco Santander, rising 3.48%, and Caixabank, up 1.18%) propel the benchmark higher, supported by broad optimism and diminished recession concerns.
Industrial, consumer, telecoms and energy firms: Reduced energy and logistics expenses provide relief to margins for companies sensitive to commodities. Inditex advances 2.07%, Iberdrola 0.30% and Telefónica 0.68% at the open.

Europe shares in the market gains

The positive tone on the Madrid exchange is reflected on other European trading floors. The Dax in Frankfurt, the CAC 40 in Paris and the Euro Stoxx 50 opened with firm advances, marking the end of a risk that could have hindered global economic growth in the second half of the year.
