The Trump Administration's restrictions on Chinese robots are drawing varied reactions from analysts.

On Tuesday, the Federal Communications Commission unveiled the administration's prohibition on new imports of advanced robotic devices from China, covering humanoid and quadruped models. The measure also applies to China-made power inverters for batteries and data centers.

The FCC release stated that the prohibition stems from these robots posing unacceptable safety risks to United States national security.

Robots already imported before the announcement remain unaffected.

As senior fellow for China and emerging technology at the Council on Foreign Relations, he noted in his post that the ban will encourage the United States to strengthen its robotics supply chains while stopping China from flooding the market with inexpensive robots that carry national security risks, much like Chinese connected vehicles. McGuire endorsed the approach of targeting import bans on specific fast-growing Chinese technologies that could threaten United States security.
