Known widely as a modern-day inventor akin to fictional icons, Elon Musk has dedicated years to launching firms aimed at transforming traditional sectors. Several of these efforts nearly failed financially yet grew into globally prominent enterprises.

Electric cars. Neural interfaces. Subterranean passages. A social network formerly called Twitter. Plus a spacecraft firm that recently listed publicly.

Gradually, an increasing number of these projects have consolidated under unified control.

Now, Musk, recognized as the wealthiest person globally and the initial individual to reach a trillion-dollar valuation, oversees an extensive collection of enterprises.

Per Forbes data, Musk first exceeded a $500bn valuation in October 2025. His initial business deal yielded $500. His debut company delivered $22m, while the next generated about $176m.

By age 31, Musk had secured nearly $198m through sales of ventures he created.

However, the bulk of the wealth that elevated him to top rank stemmed not from exits but from holding substantial equity in SpaceX and Tesla amid rising valuations.

Initial Ventures

Elon Musk entered the world in Pretoria, South Africa, during 1971.

His earliest revenue came at age 12 via sale of code for a game titled Blastar to a tech publication, fetching roughly $500.

Musk's primary enterprise was Zip2, an internet-based directory and publishing platform started with his sibling Kimbal in 1995. It assisted newspapers in digitizing local listings and maps, with Musk handling much of the programming.

Started in 2016, The Boring Company handles tunnel building and transport.
