NEW YORK - Investors in Elon Musk's space venture will have the opportunity to pose questions to him on Tuesday following SpaceX's release of its initial quarterly financial results after becoming a publicly traded entity.

Shares of SpaceX have dropped by 50 percent from their high point in June amid concerns that Musk may have overstated the company's future potential. Market participants are also preparing for fluctuations in trading as select insiders prepare to offload holdings once a lockup agreement expires later this week.

Combining roles as an innovative engineer and a promoter of stocks, Musk can anticipate inquiries regarding the completion timeline for testing the company's large Starship rockets intended for NASA's lunar missions, strategies for the satellite constellation, and possibilities for orbital datacenters of significant scale.

Amid speculation about a potential merger between SpaceX and Musk's Tesla automotive firm, he might encounter questions on such a union, though detailed responses are unlikely. No confirmation exists from either entity regarding a merger, and Musk has previously deflected by citing securities laws that prevent discussion of the matter.

SpaceX continues to incur substantial losses, with projected net deficits for the first half of the year surpassing the $5 billion recorded for the entirety of the previous year. Certain analysts anticipate a robust recovery in the latter half that could restore profitability.

Analysts surveyed by FactSet project a net loss of $1.9 billion, equivalent to 23 cents per share, for the quarter ending in June.

Insiders at SpaceX were restricted from sales during the June public offering, but restrictions start to lift on Thursday with the release of over 900,000 shares for trading, more than doubling the current tradable volume.
