As part of various style adjustments made by President Donald Trump in his second non-consecutive term, the White House introduced an updated Rose Garden in August 2025 that includes a patio area constructed from stone tiles. Trump has kept enhancing the area with gold lettering, plaques, and sculptures of the Founding Fathers.

Before the Rose Garden, Edith Roosevelt created the Colonial Garden in 1902.

The area included Johnny jump-ups, daisies, and wildflowers collected by the first lady herself, per the White House Historical Association. Boxwood enclosed the blooms.

Ellen Wilson substituted the Colonial Garden with the White House Rose Garden in 1913.

Prior to serving as a site for events and press briefings, the location was laid out as a structured flower garden.

The Rose Garden was planned by George E. Burnap and Beatrix Farrand.

Rather than curved paths winding among blooms, the layout featured straight rows with a central lawn.

In 1961, designer Rachel Lambert Mellon refreshed the garden.

Additional blooms were planted in the Rose Garden for the 1971 wedding of President Richard Nixon's daughter Tricia to Edward Finch Cox.

Although Tricia was the eighth presidential daughter to wed at the White House, her ceremony marked the first held outdoors.

The wedding drew 400 guests.

Trump explained to Fox News host Laura Ingraham in March 2025 his intent to renovate because the grass lawn proved impractical for big events. The project finished in August 2025.

The fresh tiles reference the presidency.

Tile designs feature the presidential seal in gold, a Trump favorite, along with American flag-inspired stars and stripes.

Trump added portraits along the West Wing Colonnade north of the Rose Garden, called the Presidential Walk of Fame, in September 2025.

The exhibit is not neutral - a photo of President Joe Biden is replaced by an image of an autopen. Plaques outlining former presidents' legacies from Trump's perspective joined the portraits in December 2025.

In January 2026, Trump added gold lettering to further decorate the Rose Garden.

In October 2025, Trump arranged for a George Washington statue from the Washington Monument to move to the Rose Garden.
