BEIJING (AP) - China stated on Saturday that it strongly opposes the United States placing several major Chinese companies on its list of firms with military connections. This action overlooks agreements made during the recent summit between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

The Pentagon included non-state-owned firms such as electric vehicle producer BYD along with technology leaders Alibaba and Baidu on the list last Monday. This list aims to flag Chinese entities with alleged military ties and bars them from U.S. defense contracts.

A spokesperson from China's Ministry of Commerce noted that the U.S. has disregarded the consensus from the leaders' meeting in Beijing.

The U.S. has overlooked the broader benefits of economic and trade relations between the two nations. It has broadly applied national security concerns and misused government authority to unfairly target Chinese businesses, the spokesperson stated.

BYD, Alibaba, and Baidu have previously indicated that there is no justification for their inclusion on the list.

Trump traveled to Beijing in mid-May for a key summit with Xi. The leaders committed to strengthening economic connections, such as increased Chinese purchases of U.S. farm goods and Boeing aircraft, plus establishing separate trade and investment boards.
