Canva cofounder Cameron Adams believes that compelling workers to adopt one particular AI solution can diminish their interest in the technology.

In a recent discussion on Rapid Response, recorded at the Cannes Lions event, Adams highlighted that Canva allows its team members to select any AI application they prefer. The interview took place during the Cannes Lions festival last month.

"So, we're not mandating Claude or ChatGPT or Gemini or whatever tool you want to use in your part of the company," Adams said. "You can figure it out."

He noted that staff members receive dedicated budgets for exploring various AI options, developing custom processes, and addressing specific challenges.

This approach fosters a sense of freedom that encourages creative testing and innovation among employees.

Forcing a particular tool leads to reluctant usage without the exploratory attitude essential for progress, according to Adams.

Additionally, Canva organized an AI Discovery Week where employees set aside regular duties to experiment with AI solutions and brainstorm applications.

During this period, the focus was on identifying issues, reviewing new technologies, and testing ideas inspired by other sectors.

The design company has integrated AI deeply into its operations, recently introducing Canva AI 2.0, which converts basic instructions into visual designs. Comparisons showed its output matching that of other leading tools.
