Still several popular products never make it into my cart.

I skip frozen breakfast items and make my own meals instead.

Many frozen breakfast sandwiches skillets or burritos contain more than half the daily sodium limit I aim for. I keep sodium under 1500 milligrams daily following American Heart Association guidance to help lower blood pressure risk. I prepare balanced breakfasts with whole grains nut butter and fruit using products such as Kirkland Signature mixed nut butter.

Bulk produce often goes to waste so I buy only a few items.

Fresh vegetables and fruits are important yet the large quantities at Costco exceed what my husband and I can use before spoilage. I purchase only oranges and apples that store well for weeks in the refrigerator. For everything else I select frozen produce that stays ready to use and Costco offers a strong selection.

I have not found a soup that fits my sodium guidelines.

Kirkland Signature soups may taste good yet none meet my limit of no more than 20 percent of daily sodium value per serving. I prepare soup at home with broth made from water and vegetable scraps.

Vitamin supplements are not part of my routine.

Because I eat a varied diet rich in fruits vegetables and whole grains I have not needed multivitamins or extra supplements. If a healthcare provider suggests them Costco can be a convenient source.

Large spice containers lose flavor before I finish them.

Spices enhance meals without added salt but the oversized containers at Costco are too large for most households since seasonings lose strength over time. I use cinnamon often yet finish even a small bottle before it expires so I never buy the giant size.

I avoid candy except around Halloween.

Costco sells bulk candy suitable for trick or treaters in October. Outside that month I steer clear of tempting bars such as Kit Kats and buy a single chocolate bar only when a craving hits.

I buy oats instead of cereal at Costco.

The cereal aisle is impressive but many options contain more sugar than I want in the morning. I prefer making breakfast to control sugar and sodium so I stock whole grain bread oats and eggs. I purchase small cereal boxes only when I want a change.

When I want pizza I choose a traditional crust.

Cauliflower crusts suit gluten free or lower carb diets yet I enjoy classic pizza with a doughy crust also available at Costco. Balance matters so I add vegetables on top and serve a salad alongside to offset sodium from cheese and toppings.

Protein bars powders and drinks are not necessary for me.

Costco carries many protein products useful for some shoppers. I obtain protein from everyday foods such as eggs nuts and hummus. Most adults already meet protein needs so checking with a healthcare provider before buying bulk supplements is wise.
