DUBAI, United Arab Emirates - The United States carried out another series of airstrikes on Iran through Thursday morning following President Donald Trump's warning that Tehran would face consequences for stalled negotiations, while Iran launched responses directed at Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.

The latest American strikes hit several Iranian cities amid renewed deadlock in peace efforts, as Iran vowed to keep restricting access through the Strait of Hormuz, which has affected worldwide energy flows and pushed oil costs upward. The US operation appeared broader and stronger than the previous day's action, yet Tehran provided minimal details about resulting harm.

Kuwait shut its airspace temporarily amid the Thursday strikes without specifying any harm. Jordan offered no comment on the incident, although the US Embassy in Amman issued alerts. Bahrain's Interior Ministry reported that an 11-year-old girl suffered injuries and that vehicles along with residences sustained damage from falling fragments during efforts to intercept the incoming Iranian projectiles.

The latest exchange of strikes this week has strained a fragile two-month truce. Initial clashes occurred between Iran and Israel from Sunday into Monday, followed by the pair of US-Iran rounds. An Indian official confirmed Thursday that a US strike on an oil tanker accused of breaching the Iran blockade resulted in three Indian crew deaths, highlighting risks to maritime workers.

Trump has pressed Iran to reach an agreement ending the conflict and indicated earlier in the week that a pact might be finalized soon.

Iran has shown endurance despite prolonged heavy bombardment. It relies on its capacity to restrict the Strait of Hormuz - a key route for oil and gas - as leverage in discussions.

Nevertheless both sides appear eager to conclude the fighting provided they can frame the outcome favorably domestically.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu continues to pursue objectives that complicate any settlement, including the fall of Iran's clerical leadership, the dismantling of its nuclear efforts, and the removal of the Iran-backed Hezbollah group from Lebanon.

The US Central Command indicated its most recent airstrikes concluded shortly before dawn Thursday across Iran. The command described the action as a reply to Iran's unprovoked ongoing aggression and noted targets included Iranian military surveillance tools, communication networks and air defense positions. No further details emerged on the impact, with the operations involving US Air Force, Marine and Navy units.

Blasts from the strikes resonated through Iran's capital Tehran, the port of Bandar Abbas and additional southern zones near the Strait of Hormuz. Iran's Revolutionary Guard later confirmed that American hits affected a production facility, a military housing area and a Guard installation near Tehran.

Iran replied with further strikes on Bahrain, Kuwait and Jordan.

Israel issued early Thursday alerts to residents in its northern areas to take cover following reports of possible incoming projectiles from Lebanon.

Since the US and Israel initiated the conflict with Feb. 28 strikes on Iran, the fighting has disrupted the worldwide economy, raised energy expenses and increased costs for food and essentials.

The global crude oil standard exceeded 93 dollars per barrel on Wednesday, marking a rise of over 25 percent since the war began.

Trump stated that the US military has conducted a covert operation since last month to move oil shipments around Iranian forces in the Strait of Hormuz. He noted vessels passed through under cover of darkness supported by damage to Iranian radar systems.

Trump added that over 100 million barrels of oil had bypassed Iran's restrictions on the strait. No immediate verification supported that amount, which approximates five days of pre-war shipments through the passage.

The military involvement remained unclear at first. The US Central Command on Wednesday rejected Iranian assertions that the Strait of Hormuz is sealed, stating commercial vessels continue to move through.

Maritime risks persist for crews. Indian Ports, Shipping and Waterways Minister Sarbananda Sonowal announced on X that three Indians missing after the US strike on the Palau-flagged tanker Settebello had died. The US Central Command had charged the Settebello with breaching the blockade by attempting to carry oil from Iran. American forces targeted the vessel's engine room to halt it Wednesday.

The head of the International Maritime Organization, a United Nations body, denounced the Settebello attack. Since the Iran war began, 43 incidents involving international shipping have occurred in the region, according to the IMO.

A second tanker near the Settebello site off Oman suffered an engine room fire Thursday morning, per the British military's United Kingdom Maritime Operations center. The cause remained unclear initially, though early indications pointed to another US strike.

Concerned about elevated fuel costs ahead of November midterm elections, Trump seeks a rapid resolution. Yet he maintains conditions that Iran may find difficult to accept.

The US seeks Iran's surrender of its highly enriched uranium reserves. Although Iran maintains its nuclear activities are civilian, that material lies close to weapons-grade thresholds.

Iran refuses to relinquish the uranium and calls for sanctions relief. It also demands access to frozen assets prior to any final pact, a request Trump dismissed.

Iran maintains that any agreement must halt combat between its ally Hezbollah and Israel.

A Qatari diplomatic team coordinating with the US departed Tehran on Thursday morning after discussions, according to an official familiar with the effort who spoke anonymously about the mediation.
