Prof. Yacov Hel-Or, Dean of the Efi Arazi School of Computer Science, states that the future has arrived. This marks the point for which preparation has taken place over recent years.

Hel-Or points to the rapid progress in artificial intelligence that is changing industries, academic work, and daily routines. Reichman University reflects this change through major updates to its Computer Science and Computer Science and Entrepreneurship programs, where AI now forms a core part of the studies.

In recent years the university has added more AI courses and brought machine learning tools into various subjects. Courses that once served as optional introductions to AI methods have shifted to required status. Students in these programs now finish their degrees with solid programming skills plus hands-on experience using AI systems and approaches.

The updates appear most clearly in later years of study, where learners work on advanced AI projects and cross-field applications. Yet the process starts earlier, showing a wider change in the way computer science is presented.

Hel-Or notes that AI reaches well beyond computer science alone. Computer science no longer stands as an isolated field of algorithms and theory, he says. It has grown into a basic skill that researchers in every area need to master.

Within this setting AI acts as a powerful aid that applies to nearly every subject. Core programming abilities paired with skill in using AI tools are now vital for progress. Those without these abilities may fall behind others who have them, he cautions.

What lies ahead?

Hel-Or foresees major shifts in employment. Some roles and study areas could fade, while others must adjust quickly to new technology demands.

On whether machines might exceed human abilities, he gives a direct view: machines will become smarter and more capable than people at some point, near or distant, and that change could come sooner than expected.

AI is no longer the future, he adds. It is the language of today.
